Want A Change? Begin With What You Control Most
Aug 21, 2019Are you ready? Can you smell it in the air? No matter where you live, at this time of year, most of us sense that subtle (or perhaps loud bang) of change. Whether you’re in the Northern or Southern hemisphere, the seasons are about to change on you. Are you like me and hanging on to summer begging, “No, no, please don’t go…”
While that particular change is hard for me, I am one of those unusual people who actually welcomes change. Change can keep things fresh, exciting, and certainly challenging.
Change can also bring about a better version of ourselves, one that is happier, healthier, and fulfilling our deepest dreams.
As you prepare for whatever this season of change brings, I invite you to remember your most important asset to making any change a success: your mindset.
In living with a disability AND creating the life you want, your thoughts and beliefs are your strongest tool. In navigating all the challenges your disability throws at you, your beliefs are the biggest factor in determining your success. When you’re facing all the voices of “NO” to your dreams and visions, come back with your own “KNOW” about yourself, your capabilities, and your life.
When we believe in the promise of change, our own capability to grow, and our fortitude even if we fail, we can begin to let go of clenched fists and embrace where change is leading us.
This is especially true when you live with a disability, are continually navigating the hurdles it throws at you, AND remain committed to creating the life YOU want.
Your most powerful tool for what you believe about yourself, your life, your future – it’s the only thing we really can control.
